Emissions Increase Explanation Statement
CRL Contracts Ltd acknowledges that total reported emissions in 2026 are higher than the 2022 baseline year. This increase is directly linked to business growth, including increased operational activity, business travel and the continued use of company vehicles.
During the reporting period, CRL recorded increased rail travel associated with project delivery and continued use of a company diesel vehicle, which contributed to Scope 1 and Scope 3 emissions.
The increase in emissions is representative of increased service delivery rather than reduced environmental performance. CRL remains committed to reducing emissions intensity year-on-year through route optimisation, reduction of unnecessary travel, increased use of public transport where practical, transition to lower emission vehicles and improved energy efficiency. These actions form part of CRL's commitment to continual improvement and its long-term objective of achieving Net Zero by 2050.
The rise in emissions is therefore representative of increased service delivery rather than reduced environmental performance. CRL remains committed to reducing emissions intensity year-on-year and is actively implementing measures such as route optimisation, increased public transport use, transition to low-emission vehicles, and improved energy efficiency. These actions form part of our long-term strategy to achieve Net Zero by 2050.
Detailed Scope 1–3 Emissions Breakdown (2026)
Scope 1 – Direct Emissions (Fuel Burning On-Site or in Company Vehicles):
• 3,120 litres of diesel used in a CRL company vehicle.
• Total Scope 1 emissions: 7.84 tCO₂e.
Scope 2 – Indirect Electricity Emissions:
• 4,550 kWh electricity consumed.
• Market-based emissions: 1.87 tCO₂e.
• Location-based emissions: 0.93 tCO₂e.
Scope 3 – Other Indirect Emissions:
• Rail and bus travel associated with business operations.
• Total Scope 3 emissions: 8.63 tCO₂e.
Total emissions 2026:
• Market-based: 18.34 tCO₂e.
• Location-based: 17.40 tCO₂e.
